The striking patterns featured on each Cotton & Flax piece begin as ink drawings — Erin Dollar creates each pattern by hand, using a brush and sumi ink. Then she transfers these patterns to a silkscreen to print multiples on fabric. Cotton & Flax textile home goods are influenced by California Modernism, and by printing all her patterns in either white or black ink, Erin uses a restricted palette to create strikingly modern minimalist textiles.
Erin is an artist and textile designer, currently living and working in Los Angeles. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2008, where she studied fine art printmaking and literature. Erin's artworks explore themes around homes and shelters, and often feature graphic patterned elements. Her background as a printmaker informs her work for Cotton & Flax, where Erin's striking hand drawn patterns set her textiles apart as a blending of fine art and fine craft. The entire line of Cotton & Flax home goods are designed, silkscreen printed, and sewn from her California studio.
Cotton & Flax textiles are made using natural materials, including linen fabrics and eco-friendly water-based inks. Erin chooses linen-blend fabrics for their unique qualities: high absorbency, durability, and increased softness with time. Production for Cotton & Flax is done in small batches, and many items are available in a limited quantity as Erin refreshes her palette seasonally.
