Alexa Sofia is a unique accessories company, which is focused on “artistic fashion.” Alexa Sofia is based on oil paintings and watercolors by Alexandra Koutsomitis, the company’s founder and CEO. Alexandra was born and raised on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and has always loved to incorporate her artwork into her fashion choices.
Alexandra started Alexa Sofia while completing her painting degree at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Her senior thesis inspired her first 100% silk scarf collection, as it revolved around a series of objects with patterns in the background and realistic images in the forefront. After having interned at a few fashion companies Alexandra decided to bring Alexa Sofia to life in 2013. Alexandra knew that she had to take her designs to a whole different level and mix her love of art with her love of fashion.
Alexandra recently expanded her efforts to include clutches and pillows made in her mother’s native country, Colombia, South America. Additionally, she paints her patterns and designs on other objects such as ceramics.
Alexa Sofia is a wearable art company bridging the gap between fine art and fashion. Each design conveys the intricate details and the unique qualities of the materials that were used in her original artwork. In her artwork, Alexandra plays with the juxtaposition of different objects against different sizes creating a quirkiness that she likes to portray in her accessories.
Alexa Sofia gives Alexandra a medium to express herself through art, while also sharing her artwork by making it into wearable art. The main purpose at Alexa Sofia is to breathe life into the playful creations bringing a sense of humor to elegant sophisticated fashion. The designs focus on a dichotomy between humorous and serious while still being elegant and quirky.
