"People fascinate me. This world is a big place, filled with interesting people. I love to sit and listen to their life stories. In doing so, I have found we all share many experiences. I tell “our story” through art.
My parents are travelers. They instilled the love of places, history and adventure in me. My art begins with location. I start with the familiarity of home. My designs tell the story of the land we grew up in, traveled to, or dream of traveling to in our lifetime. I entitle my compositions “State Collections” because they connect us to where we are, have been or where we want to be. Currently, my collections are based in the United States. However, I have new designs for Canada and many other Countries around the world.
I create a digital collage using my personal watercolors, mixed with my studies, photographs, history, facts, words and letters. I tell the story of a State using nature and its regional familiarity. The composition tells the story of the people that reside or visit there. I am always fascinated to see how people put their collections together. I see my designs as pages on their story board of life.
I have been happily married for almost 30 years. I have three grown sons and a new daughter in law. I enjoy traveling, as well as, working in the studio. My studio is based in the front of our family barn. I live and work in a truly Americana setting in Louisiana. My Labradors relax in the studio, while I work and can glance out the window to see our chickens laying eggs, horses grazing and geese swimming on the pond."—Lori Young, Artist
