Mallory Page is a Louisiana native. Growing up as the daughter of a painter and an architect, she was immersed from a young age in art and its fundamentals. She attended Louisiana State University and, with the encouragement of an art professor, decided to pursue a career in the arts rather than her chosen major. She graduated in May of 2006 and began her career as a painter a month later. In 2010, Mallory opened her studio (on Julia Street) in the Historic Arts District in New Orleans. Her work appears in public and private collections throughout the country.
Mallory lives and works in New Orleans. She is also an advocate for Arts and Education in Louisiana and serves as a board member for the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts, run by her husband, Jacques Rodrigue.
“I have a minor in Architecture History so when I first visited 614 Julia, I fell in love with the historic charm that engulfs you the moment you enter the space. The Thirteen Sisters of Julia Street were constructed by The New Orleans Building Company in 1833. The block of row houses became a precedent for a new urban residential design for the city- including the famed Pontalba Apartments built some twenty years later. Preservation has been everything to everyone that resides on the block and the neighborhood is not without your classic New Orleans characters. My neighbors, most of which have been on the row for years, continue to be a delight of wit and passion. They are a melting pot of historians, artists, musicians and beyond- all of which taught me about the area with such care as they continue to fight to keep the historic essence protected. It was my first glance at the personalities of the city of which has captured my heart.
My studio, my place, has meant everything to me. I found focus, magic and a new presence of je ne sais quoi developing in my work. I began to ask different questions and paint from curious
sources of inspiration. My paintings have grown larger, bolder and more color focused because of my life and sense of place in New Orleans.”
The Alchemy Never Starts or Never Stops
Cataloging four years of work, this monograph is the collection of paintings that were made in the New Orleans Studio at 614 Julia Street from 2010 to 2014. It includes an essay by Wendy Rodrigue as well as an essay by the artist entitled, "The Alchemy Never Starts or Never Stops," which for the first time deeper relays the artist's fundamental process as well as her deeply personal thought process as it relays to painting. It showcases over 30 of the artist's favorite paintings as well as intimate photos captured while working in the studio. Of which she insists- are not meant to be internet viral. "Like my paintings, the book was created to be adored in realtime and as an art piece of it's own."
This beautifully canvas bound book is an artist monograph. In addition to the book, the artist has released a Collector's Copy of 50 editioned one of a kind books. Each is enclosed in a custom clamshell box binding and is hand painted on the interior.
