Founded in 2006 in New York City, Trove is led by Jee Levin and Randall Buck, who are both accomplished artists and the creative force behind the brand. Jee Levin, who applies her technique and philosophy of painting to wallcovering design, seeks to create wallpaper that breaks all the rules by reimagining the current language of wallpaper from repetitive graphic patterns to organic imagery with less repeat and more of the random. The resulting wallcovering designs by Trove push the limits of scale and repeat with unique patterns that are 12 feet high and 3 to 6 feet across. Randall Buck In addition to designing wallpaper for his company, Trove, Randall Buck is a multi-media artist who works in time-based media. His installation work employs light, motion and photography. After completing his graduate studies in fine arts at the Art Institute of Chicago, Randall returned to Minneapolis for a brief period where he met Jee Levin. Together, they opened a clay studio where they designed and produced pieces for Aveda. The two relocated to New York City in 1995, where Randall spent his first eleven years designing graphics, branding, and retail spaces for nationally located stores. Meanwhile, Randall and Jee spent two years developing the concept, aesthetic, and first range for the launch of Trove in 2006. As a designer, Randall envisions pattern from an architectural perspective, which is evident in Trove’s work. The company employs technology that pushes beyond conventional manufacturing limits. Jee Levin Jee Levin wanted to make wallpaper that broke all the rules by setting out to elaborate the current language of wallpaper from repetitive graphic patterns to organic imagery with less repeat and more of the random. Prior to launching Trove with Randall Buck at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York in 2006, Jee spent eleven years working in the still life photography industry. As an artist, Jee is a painter, working primarily in encaustics, a medium that emphasizes layering of translucent images formed by pigment mixed with beeswax and tree resin. Jee applies the similarities in technique and philosophy of painting to wallpaper with her designs for Trove.
